Why we like it
The Italian-American restaurant most of west SCV adopted after Macaroni Grill closed, and twenty-plus years later it's still the room.
Bella Cucina Italian on Seco Canyon Road is the city's most-reviewed Italian-American sit-down with 1,400 Yelp reviews and a more-than-two-decade run in Saugus. The pitch is straightforward: hearty Italian-American food, a wine list, dependable service, a room that handles a four-top, a six-top, or a date night with the same easy rhythm. The kitchen makes the staples (penne alla vodka, fettuccine alfredo, lobster ravioli, beef lasagna) better than the chain alternative, and the regulars haven't found a reason to leave.
If you've lived in west SCV any length of time, this is probably already on your list. If you haven't, this is the room locals quietly hand to newcomers when they say "we miss our old Italian place." Bella Cucina has been the Macaroni Grill replacement for so many SCV families that it's earned a kind of civic-default status.
The vibe
Warm Italian-American, leaning sit-down with white-tablecloth pretensions but staying friendly. The room handles a date and a Friday-night family of six in adjacent booths without conflict. Wood, dim lighting, framed Italian-vista art, the kind of place where the host knows the regulars by name. The wine bar at the front is small but real; the dining room is the heart of the operation.
Volume is moderate. The acoustics absorb a busy Saturday without becoming a roar. Servers are tenured and steady. It's a comfort restaurant in the best sense.
What to order
- Penne alla Vodka. The kitchen's most-mentioned pasta and the safe call for a first-time visitor. Cream-and-tomato done right.
- Lobster Ravioli. Above its station for the price point. Brown butter sage, generous filling.
- Chicken Tequila. A signature that wandered in from the 90s and stayed. Cilantro lime cream sauce, fettuccine, peppers. Worth ordering at least once.
- Beef Lasagna. Layered, baked, the dish you bring an out-of-town family member to.
- Fettuccine Alfredo. The Italian-American test, and Bella Cucina passes.
- A bottle from the wine list. Italian-leaning, reasonable by-the-glass options, and the staff will guide you to the food.
When to go
Lunch (Mon-Fri 11am-2pm) is a sleeper time slot. The lunch menu is sharper than the dinner crowd realizes and the room is half empty. Tuesday through Thursday dinner is the move for a quiet date or family meal. Friday and Saturday after 6:30pm fill up; reservations are recommended.
The kitchen splits its hours weekdays (closed 2-4pm), so verify before showing up at 3 expecting a meal. Weekends and Sundays run continuous service.
Good to know
Parking: Shared lot on Seco Canyon Road. Plenty of space; never an issue. The plaza is set back from the main road, so don't miss the turn.

Dietary: Vegetarian options on the menu (eggplant parm, cheese ravioli, vegetable pasta). Gluten-free pasta substitutions handled cleanly. Vegan options are thinner; ask about a built plate.

Wine: The list leans Italian and California. Reasonable by-the-glass options and a few bottle splurges for an anniversary night.

Frequently asked questions
Did Bella Cucina replace Macaroni Grill?
Not exactly. Macaroni Grill closed its Stevenson Ranch location and a lot of west-SCV locals rerouted their Italian-night habits to Bella Cucina, which sits a few miles north on Seco Canyon Rd in Saugus. Bella Cucina is its own restaurant, family-run, and has been operating in Saugus for over twenty years. The "replacement" framing is a community story, not a corporate one.
What's the best pasta on the menu?
By Yelp consensus, the Penne alla Vodka and Lobster Ravioli are the two most-mentioned. The Chicken Tequila is the kitchen signature for diners who want a non-traditional pasta. The Lasagna is the safest "I want comfort food" play.
Is Bella Cucina actually in Saugus or Valencia?
Saugus. The address is on Seco Canyon Road in the 91350 ZIP, which is firmly Saugus. Some older write-ups list it as Stevenson Ranch (a leftover from the Macaroni Grill era) or Valencia (because most of west SCV reaches it from McBean Pkwy). The actual neighborhood is Saugus.
More in Saugus
Saugus is denser with food than its residential reputation suggests. Hanasaki Sushi Bar on Plum Canyon is the city's date-night sushi answer. Piccola Osteria on La Madrid is the wine-bar-and-pizza concept from the same family that runs Piccola Trattoria. D&D FireArt for Chinese, Let's Thai for Thai, and The Backyard Grub n' Brews on Golden Valley round out the Saugus sit-down lineup. For the full guide, see our guide to where to eat in Santa Clarita.
